  On a beautiful Saturday morning on March 10th, the American Heart Association held its 21st Annual Hilo Heart & Stroke Walk. Activities started at 7am at the Hilo Bayfront Park. Exercise demos got everyone’s heart pumping before they headed out for the nearly 2 mile walk along the bay front highway. The AHA Hilo Heart Walk is an event that brings awareness to our community about life changes that need to be made to prevent a heart attack or stroke from happening to you. Changes that include: healthy food choices, healthy activities and balancing your life.  The event also emphasizes “Knowing the Signs” of a heart attack or stroke so that the victim can get immediate help and stop the progression of an attack. During the month of December, Lex Brodie’s Tire of the Big Island conducted a Holiday Food Drive.  Lex Brodie’s Tire gave our customers a discount on their tires if they brought in non-perishable food items for the Hawaii island Food Basket. The Hilo and Pahoa Lex Brodie's locations collected 671 lbs of food while the Kona and Kamuela locations collected 511 lbs for a total well over 1100 lbs. CHECKING YOUR PRESSURE @ the ACS-HILO HEART WALK It was a beautiful day in Hilo at the Liliuokalani Gardens/Isles Park on Saturday March 2. That was the day of the 16th Annual ACS Hilo Heart Walk & Health Fair. The program started at 7am in the morning with over 1000 people buzzing around the tents & tables filled with information about leading a healthier lifestyle.  This event brings the community together to educate them about the risks of heart disease, how to know the signs of a stroke and what we need to do to avoid a heart attack. Lex Brodie’s Tire had the pleasure to be one of the businesses participating in this event.  We focused on Checking Your Pressure. Padaabum!
