Lex Brodie's Tire of the Big Island was happy to present the FOOD BASKET-Hawaii Island's Food Bank, their first check last month. We recently partnered with the FOOD BASKET to help them feed the growing number of families needing assistance with food. For every tire we sell at Lex Brodie's, we have committed to donating $1 to the FOOD BANK. We were excited to present them a check for $2011! That will add up to 18,000 lbs. of food that will get prepared into meals for our hungry residents across the Big Island. At a FOOD DRIVE last year in Keauhou, Executive Director-Nani Lee was expressing concern about the drop in donations due to the economy. "When times get tough, monetary & food donations are less, but the need for food rises", said Nani. "And it's especially hard to see the growing number of kids who turn out for our Soup Kitchens each week." They invite students in grades 4-12; from across the state; to submit a letter describing their appreciation of someone who impacted their life. The "someone" may be a parent, teacher, friend – anyone who has touched their life. The program will recognize one winning student writer per month. The letter will be published in MidWeek and winners will be invited and honored on the Perry & Price breakfast show on KSSK.
